>> Firefox, more like Fire memory hog, a great browser but, sometimes it can get pretty sluggish. I'm Tom Merritt, Editor from CNET.com. On this edition of Insider Secrets, I'll share a few tricks on how to make Firefox fast. Jessica and Pete, a couple editors over at Download.com are Firefox zen masters and thankfully they passed along a few of these tips for us. For instance, did you know Firefox saves pages so if you use the back button they're right there waiting for you. That's nice, but it also takes up memory. To turn it off, enter about colon config into your address bar. Type in browser.sessionhistory and select the option that includes total viewers. Double click and change negative one to zero. This will make Firefox a little leaner, but be forewarned. Using the back button will take a little longer now as the page will have to reload each time you go back. Next is for you frequent downloaders. Have you noticed downloads starting off slowly? Here's an easy fix. Press control and J on your keyboard. If you've got more than 20 downloads, clean them out. And of course, a tip for the extension mag. Now I'm guessing your browser's not as bad as this guy's, those add ons seem cute at first, but ignore their little puppy dog eyes and kill the ones you don't use. Go to tools, select add ons, highlight the unused or disabled and press uninstall. Bam! They'll be happier where they're going and so will you. Finally, make sure one of the extensions you left in isn't the problem. You can restart Firefox in safe mode. Click the Windows start button, select run. Then enter Firefox.exe-safe-mode. This loads Firefox without themes or extensions. If performance booms, you'll need to hunt down and uninstall little critters that are causing the problem. There's one right now.
