>> Jessica Dolcourt: Windows Mobile phones are known for many things, but a snazzy interface isn't one of them. I'm Jessica Dolcourt from CNET download.com taking a first look at version 3.0 of the snappy UI replacement for Windows Mobile known as SPB Mobile Shell. SPB Mobile Shell's actually an interface replacement and an app launcher in one. As you can see, it transforms an ordinary, almost spare-looking Windows Mobile interface into this sleek glossy interface. There are actually two views you can choose from in SPB Mobile Shell. The professional look, which displays stylized widgets for your calendar and your appointments and alarms. You can also switch to a more causal display where you can add widgets on the three-panel home screen. These include things like weather, battery life, an mp3 player, and so on. You are able to change the background to any image in your photo gallery as well. You can change the color of the professional layout too from the tools icon. An application launcher and contact launcher are built into both professional and lifestyle layouts. Activating the launcher pulls up a list of recently-used programs and shortcuts for your settings and task manager. The visual address book lets you assign top contacts and also lets you pull in any photo from your photo gallery or any picture in your friends' Facebook profile. You can even crop images. In addition to all the shortcut keys is the carousel you can swipe through to get from screen to screen. This is one way to change from layout view to professional view and to the contacts carousel where you can manage photos and ring tones for your favorites. Also, while the SPB Mobile Shell upgrades the look of your default today screen, it doesn't get rid of it entirely. You can revisit it anytime and easily return to the flashing interface. SPB offers Windows Mobile users a beautiful intuitive interface alternative that you can try for free from download.com. The biggest drawback we see is the price. Thirty dollars will be a hefty price for some to pay for an eye-candy application, but I've got to say with it, I like this phone better already. I'm Jessica Dolcourt looking at SPB Mobile Shell version 3.0. [ Music ]
