>> Hi I'm Kevin Massy from CNET Call Tech and today we are taking a look at the Sony XAVW 1. Now this is an in dash, in car media player. The first one that we have seen from Sony that is doubled in size to 4 inch size, full touch screen audio and video player for your car. It can play a range of sources AM, FM radio, and disk space audio, auxiliary inputs via RCA jacks in the back of the unit. This is one of only three in car media systems that can play Sony's SA CD or super audio CD format. We've had this in the car and you can certainly tell the difference between SA CD and regular CD with the car stationary when playing back in MP3 or a regular CD, you get to the bottom corner of the screen dedicated to this soft button control interface. We like the crass player layout of these menus, the soft buttons on the screen are big and touchable. The system can also be used to play video CDs and DVD video which also go in the single disc slot behind the roll down face plate. One of the first things you notice when playing video back is it's really crisp resolution, it's beautiful, rendering bright, vivid colors. When playing audio sources this system gives you a wide range of means for tweaking your audio output to your own specifications. Overall we are impressed with the system, it does its job well in terms of audio and video playback, it has a beautifully designed graphical interface and in many respects it raises the bar for in dash, in car audio video multimedia systems. This is on sale now for a price of around Eight hundred dollars, if you want to ad modules you will have to pay extra for iPod HD or satellite radio conductivity. I'm Kevin Massie and today I've had a first look at the Sony XAVW1. ^M00:01:59 [ Music ]

Sony XAV-W1 Review

The good: The Sony XAV-W1 features a crisp, wide-screen display, a broad range of media-playback capabilities, and a user-friendly selection interface.

The bad: The absence of a front-mounted auxiliary input jack or USB port restricts the ability of drivers to take their generic MP3 players on the road.
