-Hi, I'm Scot Stein, senior editor at cnet.com, and this is the Sony VAIO S, the new Sony VAIO S. If you're fan of Sony VAIO laptops, you probably know that they tend to be pretty expensive. They have some pretty nice features and they have some slick very Sony designs. Well, the VAIO Z was Sony's super high end laptop for the ultra portable set and the new VAIO S really tried to kind of adopt a lot of those features in the VAIO Z, but come in at more affordable price for the rest of us. What that means is at starting price of 899 for the lowest end VAIO S, but it climbs up. This model and the VAIO SA are in no particular configuration came in at about 1299. You can get a really good set of features for that price package will really now a frame. This thing is under an inch thin. It weights about 3.5 pounds. That's less than a MacBook Pro, but still weighs more and it's thicker than something like the MacBook Air. So, if you're kind of between there, you got a thinner, lighter laptop, but you do have an optical drive in here. In fact, you can even upgrade to a Blu-ray and it has AMD graphics. It's a got a full standard second generation set of Core i3 processors or Core i5 or Core i7 depending on how much you're gonna pay, and heck you could even upgrade this thing to 1 terabyte SSD drive for whopping $2700 extra if felt like blowing that type of money. The magnesium alloy frame feels good, but the hinges are little bit wobbly for our taste. In fact, the whole laptop feels a little slight and thin, but that's because of its design and its lightweight construction. The only thing that made some people off is that it almost has a little bit of throwback design and the platinum silver, it kind of has a little bit of 80s type feel even though nothing like this actually existed in the 80s. The angular lines, the extra buttons on top, but heck it has a backlit keyboard. It's comfortable and if you're looking for a slick thousand dollar range thinner 13-inch laptop, definitely check this one out. I'm Scott Stein and this is a look at the new Sony VAIO S.
