>> Rich Brown: Hi I'm Rich Brown senior editor for CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Sony Vaio LV250B. This is a nice big all in one. It's a 24 inch display and it's designed to work pretty much as a complete home entertainment system. It comes with a Blu-ray drive standard and because it has a nice big 24 inch screen you get full 1080 P resolution. That means you can stick this on a wall, stick it in a den. It really can work as a total replacement for a TV. You know we probably wouldn't put it in a living room for you know for a nice big full room experience but anywhere else a dorm room, an office and this thing will work great. Now Sony put a fast dual core Intel CPU in here as well as a nice big hard drive, a video 9600 GM graphics chip. So there really is a substantial computer behind this system. You can certainly use this for productivity. But if you're looking for a large screen all in one to get work done we think iMac is probably a better bet. So first is the boring stuff on this side. You have an express card port, 2 media card readers, a set of analog audio jacks and a USB 2 port. Now the right side actually shows off some of the cooler features. You have a slot loading Blu-ray drive here, that's fine, a pair of USB ports, but also you have this HTMI select button and what that does is there's an HTMI port on the back and we'll show you that in a second but when you press that it switches the signal to any HTMI connected device. That's a really pretty handy feature for integrating your other home entertainment devices and no other system that we know of has such a smooth transition between video signals. You also get hard volume controls as well as a hard display power button up here which means you don't have to go into Windows and sit down in front of the system with a mouse or keyboard to do just basic controls like you would to the television. So under here is the HTMI input we talked about as well as inputs for 2 TV tuners over there as well as standard AV, S-Video and infrared transmitter inputs over there for an IR blaster. One thing we particularly like about this system is that it's a base on mount compatible which means that you can take off the stand attach the system to any standard wall mount or a arm perhaps on a on a desk. You've got a big connect button to sink up with a wireless mouse and keyboard, another pair of USB slots, a digital optical out as well as a standard FireWire 400 jack. So we mentioned the wireless mouse and keyboard. Keys are nice and big. It's a pretty slick design. Touch pad over here is pretty nice because that means you can use it. You don't have to mess with the mouse if you want to use a system from a couch or if you're a little bit further away. So you get the ubiquitous web cam up here on the top like you find pretty much on every all-in-one but otherwise there's quite a lot about this system we think is pretty unique. So I'm Rich Brown this is a Sony Vaio LV250B.

Sony Vaio LV250B Review

The good: VESA wall mount compatible out of the box; dedicated HDMI input lets you input video from other devices; strong application performance.

The bad: Not a great multitasker.

The bottom line: You can find more-cost-effective large-screen all-in-ones for general productivity, but Sony's Vaio LV250B is our favorite for home entertainment. Loaded with unique features geared toward digital media convenience, this system will meet the needs of anyone looking for a PC to use as an entertainment hub.
