>> Hey Dan Ackerman here at CES 2009 and I have got my hands on one of the most buzzed about products here at the show; it is the Sony Vaio Lifestyle PC, also known as the P-series; and as you can see it is a very, very tiny laptop. It's about 1.4 pounds, less than an inch thick and it's about the size of a standard business envelope. You can actually just fold it up and stick it in your jacket pocket. Now inside CPU wise it's got the same atom chip as you'd fine in a lot of Net books like the Dell Mini 9 or the EPC, but this guy has two gigs of ram and Windows Vista where they manage to cram a fairly large keyboard into there. They kind of built the whole thing around the big keyboard, however, there's no room for a touch pad; instead they've got a little pointing stick and that kind of takes a little getting used to. Now Sony's pitching this as a very kind of upscale, lifestyle product so it's got built-in mobile broadband from Verizon; it's also got a built-in GPS antenna and Blue Tooth and 802.11 and Wi-Fi. You're going to be able to find the Sony Vaio Lifestyle PC available now starting at about $899. If you want to add to a solid state hard drive that will add a couple hundred bucks so you can get up to a 64-gig solid state hard drive. I'm Dan Ackerman from CES 2009 and that is the Sony Vaio Lifestyle PC.

Sony Vaio VGN-P588E Lifestyle PC Review
The good: Elegant, thin design; large keyboard; multiple networking and connectivity options; high-resolution screen; less expensive than Sony's UMPC experiments.
The bad: Stuck with Windows Vista (for now); trackpoint navigation isn't ideal.
The bottom line: Sony's upscale Atom-powered Lifestyle PC has the components of a cheaper machine but the design of a more expensive one. The end result will be a useful travel PC for some and a conversation piece for others.
