>> Hi, I'm Matthew Moskoviciak associate editor at cnet.com, and this is the Sony STR DA5300ES. Now this is the flagship model in Sony's line of receivers, and actually an update to last year's groundbreaking 5200 ES. Now this receiver has the same graphical user interface as last year's model which is excellent. One of the nice things about the interface is it makes it a little bit easier to use a difficult product like an AV receiver. All you have to do is press Menu on the remote and you get this nice graphical menu and you can just surf to the input and select a real name for a product such as DVR instead of selecting something more difficult like HGMI 3. Another one of the outstanding features of this receiver is its HGMI connectivity. If you look around back there are 6 HGMI inputs which is more HGMI connectivity than we've seen on any other receiver. It was even difficult for us to think of enough devices that you'd actually use all 6 HGMI inputs, but it's great for future-proofing as more and more products have HGMI connectivity now. One of the notes we had against last year's model was that the video processing wasn't that good. Luckily on this one it's a lot better. We didn't see nearly as many jaggies [Phonetic] and it does have 2, 3, pull down processing which was something that it was missing in the past. Last but not least there's audio quality, which is arguably the most important feature and the Sony lives up to its expectations. It sounds very good and is comparable to high-end receivers from other manufacturers. With its excellent graphical user interface, its outstanding HGMI connectivity, and its excellent sound and video processing anyone who's looking for a high-end receiver and can afford it should take a look at the Sony STR DA5300ES. I'm Matthew Moskoviciak from cnet.com. ^M00:01:56[ Music ]

Sony STR DA5300ES Review

Editors' rating

The good: Excellent graphical user interface; six HDMI 1.3 inputs; can upconvert all analog signals to HDMI; user-selectable output resolution; excellent upconversion video quality; XM- and Sirius-ready; automatic speaker calibration; can switch between nine high-definition video sources; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding

The bad: Expensive; main remote can be confusing, although simpler remote provided; Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding cannot be used with current crop of high-definition video players.

The bottom line: With six HDMI inputs, an intuitive graphical user interface, and excellent audio and video quality, the Sony STR-DA5300ES raises the bar on what to expect from a high-end AV receiver.
