Sony PlayStation 3 (80GB) Video Transcript

>>A great lineup of upcoming games and a rock solid Blu-ray player make the 80 gigabyte PS3 our top holiday pick. Hi I'm Jeff Bakalar, today we're gonna tell you all about this console on today's product spotlight. ^M00:00:13 [ Music ] ^M00:00:19

>>Now while I still think the Xbox 360 is a great deal at priced around $300, we're recommending the PS3 this year because of its affordability. When Sony first released the console it was way too expensive for the mainstream market but now that it can be had for $400 dollars we think that it's a great deal. Not only are you getting a top of the line gaming system but you're also getting what we consider to be one of the best Blu-ray players around. It can also stream media wirelessly in your home or play media directly off a USB drive. The PS3 has a bunch of exclusive games coming out this season including Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Motor Storm Pacific Rift and early next year, Kill Zone 2. Also the newly updated PlayStation network store now offers HDTV shows and movies as well as demos and games. Owning a PS3 will also give you access to PlayStation Home that's coming out soon, sort of a virtual second life experience set inside the PlayStation network. You'll also be able to design your own living space in addition to meeting other gamers and you'll be able to set up matches inside PlayStation home as well. Now the PlayStation 3 has changed a lot since it first came out in November of 2006. This latest 80 gig model is technically that core 40 gigabyte model that they earlier introduced. It's basically a strip down version of the console, it's just the gaming system and the Blu-ray player. There's no backwards compatibility and there's no support for the flash and media cards up front like it used to have. Also unfortunately Sony has removed half the USB ports. All you have now is just the two in the front. However, you are going to get that rumbling dual shock 3 controller which is pretty cool. Now if you're looking for a bigger hard drive Sony will be offering 160 gigabyte model come November. That's gonna go for $500 and it will also come bundled with unchartered Drakes Fortune as well as a voucher for the PSN game called Pain. That's it for this product spotlight. For more information on the PlayStation 3 go on and read our review. I'm Jeff Bakalar and thanks for watching. [ Music ]
