>> Hello. I'm Phil Ryan, senior editor, CNET.com. And we're taking a look at the Sony Handycam HDR-SR11. The SR11 is an AVCHD camcorder, so it records in that format to a hard drive, a 60-gigabyte hard drive. It's got a nifty, big 2.7-inch LCD screen. It's got a 5-meagapixel CMOS sensor inside. And it can also shoot still images that the camera interpolates up to 10-megapixels. It has face detection. So it can identify a face in the screen and then it will use that face to focus and to determine exposure. It does use a touch screen menu system, which some people don't like, but you don't always have to use the menus for everything, because it's got a little cam control dial on front that you can set up so that it adjusts focus or shutter speed or iris control. And there's a little button right next to it that turns on and off backlight compensation, which is one of the things that I use quite a bit when I'm out in the fields shooting. On top you'll find a little accessory shoe for Sony's accessories. And there's a viewfinder, which is becoming increasingly rare on camcorders. And you can flip it up, but it doesn't extend out, unfortunately. One of the nifty things about this camera's designs is that it has hard doors for a lot of the jacks. There's a microphone input jack, and headphone jack. And it doesn't use little rubbery doors that can be annoying to use. It has nice, hard doors that slide. Overall, we liked the footage that we saw from this. It has a really nice 12X optical, T-star lens that's very sharp. And it gives you really good footage for any VCHD camcorder. It goes all the way up to 1920 by 1080, at 16-megapixels per second, which is better than you could do with ABC HD last year. I'm Phil Ryan, and this is the Sony Handycam HDR-SR11 ^M00:02:14 [ Music ]

Sony Handycam HDR-SR11 Review

The good: Excellent video and performance; impressive still photos for a camcorder; adequate manual controls; nice CAM CTL dial; docking station included.

The bad: No wind filter; doesn't include mini HDMI cable.

The bottom line: Sony's Handycam HDR-SR11 and SR12 60GB hard-drive-based AVCHD camcorders deliver top notch performance and image quality.
