>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the Sony Ericsson V710I. This is a new music phone from Sony Ericsson. It is not launched, so you will not find it with a US carrier as of now. This is an official walkman phone, but it is a music phone and it actually looks a lot like the W710I. Has the same sort of shape, same looped antenna up here, same external display. Really looks similar. There are a couple differences. The camera now has a self-portrait mirror, which is a nice touch. External display, still not in love with it. It is monochrome, so it won't show photo caller ID. However, you can use the music player buttons on either side to access the player. I did like the keys on the W710I a little better, since they were rubberized, had a nice textured feel. These are little thin, but they're still easy to find and press. Open up the phone. Inside you have a very nice display. Sony Ericsson always does a great job with their displays. This phone is no different. You can see it's pretty bright. Has a great color resolution. And really shows everything well from graphics to text to photos. Navigation keypads, pretty good. Has a nice tactical toggle here. It's raised just above the surface of the phone. It's also good sized, has an okay button in the middle. You also have a couple of soft keys, dedicated back button, dedicated clear button and then also shortcuts for the web browser and a button that takes you to a secondary short cut menu which you can program yourself. Moving down to the keypad, Sony Ericsson has had a little trouble with keypads in the past. But this one is just a bit better. It's also better than the W710I, even though it looks just like it. You see that the keys are divided into columns, which is nice. You also have very tactical feel to the keys. Pretty large numbers on them and they're lit by a bright back lighting as well. Moving down to the bottom here. Power button dedicated and also you have a shortcut button for your messaging. These buttons are a tad small and they're actually a tiny bit recessed from the surface of the phone. So you really kind of have to dig in there and get them. But otherwise, they're not a problem. We weren't really impressed that you do get only one speaker, it's here on the back. It's not the best location if you're playing music, especially if the phone is resting on a surface. You really want to face it up like that. Also if you're using the speakerphone as well. If you press it like this, it can just sound a little muffled. Overall, the phone has pretty good features. Stereo Bluetooth, two mega pixel camera, speakerphone, push email, PC synching, all the sort of things you'd expect on a high-end phone.
