Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Video Transcript
-Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor at cnet.com. I'm here at CTIA 2011 in Orlando, Florida. I wanna show you the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for Verizon. This phone is exactly the same as what we saw in Barcelona, but of course, it is coming to Verizon. Now, that's significant for a couple of reasons. One is that Sony Ericsson hasn't made a CDMA phone in a long time. Also, Verizon could be- unless Rogers in Canada beats it, could be the very first carrier in the whole world that have this phone. That's really significant. It demonstrates Sony Ericsson's, what they say, an emphasizes to North American market. Usually, Sony Ericsson comes out with devices, you get them in Europe first. You get them in Asia, so we'll get in the U.S. first. It's pretty cool. I'm happy about that. Of course, we have a shortcut for V Cast apps down there. Then, we're gonna go to VZ Navigator. It has Verizon branding in here on the back next to the camera and everything you saw before. And when you open up the phone, it also has Verizon branding down below. Now, when you open up the phone like that, you do get the preloaded games. You get Bruce Lee- You get a Bruce Lee game. You got Madden NFL '11, so those come preloaded. Any other games, you will have to buy. Most games are optimized for the device. But a couple like Tetris, aren't. But you still get a good game playing experience, I'm sure. Otherwise, the phone is very much the same. You have normal PlayStation controllers down here. Of course, there aren't joysticks 'cause you can't really put a joystick on a slider phone and make it thin- and make it thin. So you do have this circular touch pads. I'd use them. Nicole Lee has used them. She's a big gamer and she said that, "It took some getting used to, pretty sensitive. You can move a little bit and you can go a long way." So you just gotta be careful of that, but I think it's a pretty sharp device. So this is a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for Verizon Wireless and it should be on late April. This is a first CDMA phone from Sony Ericsson a long time and, hopefully, Verizon Wireless will be the first carrier in the whole world to get it. I'm Kent German, here at CTIA 2011 with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for Verizon Wireless.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (Verizon Wireless) Review
The good: The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread without a complicated overlay. It has a slide-out game pad that makes gameplay more immersive, and it comes preloaded with popular game titles like Crash Bandicoot and Asphalt 6. Features include a 5-megapixel camera plus a front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
The bad: The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play's touch-screen gaming controls are not as responsive and precise as we would like, photo quality is average at best, and it lacks an HDMI port and 4G LTE.
The bottom line: The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is a significant step forward in mobile gaming, but it suffers from key hardware limitations.
