>> Hi I'm Kent German, senior editor here at Cnet.com. Today we are going to take a first look at the Sony Ericsson W880I, it's a new Walkman phone, it is unlocked so right now it is not with a US carrier. It's still a basic candy bar shape though, black on the side, it comes in a couple different colors as well but in the backside is orange, to den out the Walkman phone. There is no volume reference on the side, so you will have to use, adjust the volume on the navigation controls when you are on a call, which can be a little inconvenient. I also have a, the Jack for the charger right here and this [inaudible] camera shutter, also very thin and small. Two lenses as well, one on the back, one here in front. Found the main display just a little bit small for the phone size, pretty good resolution though, things showed up well, showed colors and graphics fine. I did have some issues with the keypad buttons and the navigation buttons. The keypad buttons are very, very thin, I found them in little difficult to press them, if I were pressing down, my fingers are a little big so I kept pressing the other buttons, felt these buttons could be a bit thicker. Wasn't great for texting[sp?], had a couple mis dials they are raised above the surface of the phone though, definitely easy to go by feel. So it is a very thin phone, kind of stylish but found the controls much too small and a little too difficult to use. Otherwise it has all the Walkman features including Bluetooth, speakerphone and everything you might expect. I'm Kent German and this is the Sony Ericsson W880I. ^M00:01:21 [ Music ]

Sony Ericsson W880i - flame black (Unlocked) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Sony Ericsson W880i has a slim, eye-catching design. It offers admirable call quality and a decent feature set including Bluetooth, a Walkman player, and a 2-megapixel camera. It has quite a long battery life as well.

The bad: The Sony Ericsson W880i navigation controls and keypad buttons are tiny and difficult to use. Also, it lacks an FM radio, and the music quality was tinny.

The bottom line: The Sony Ericsson W880i is a decent multimedia cell phone but we couldn't get past the poorly-designed controls.
