Sony Ericsson W350a Video Transcript
>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at Cnet.com. Today we'll take a first look at the Sony Ericsson W350a . This is a new walkman phone for Sony Ericsson. It is designed as a low end walkman phone so what that means is it doesn't have the fanciest features that you can find. And definitely this low end status is carried over into the design. It does come in white and black. It has a simple candy bar design. It is pretty thin. The gwere [assumed spelling] face is just basic white: just nothing on it that you can see. It has a tiny camera lens. There is no flash or self-portrait mirror. And then a tiny speaker below. And it does have this interesting flap. And when you close that you can see that you have music buttons right here and the music player activates automatically. What's actually happening is that when you press one of these buttons, it's actually pressing through to the keypad. So that does mean that the flap detaches. I'm not really sure you're supposed to, but it can come off. So there's no really danger about it if it does fly off or you do break it off. You're not going to be damaging the phone's internal workings. The only good thing is that when it's closed you do protect the keypad, but it's kind of a thing of the candy bar phone is you expect the piece to be open. So, didn't it find it that much of a draw. On the upside, the display is bright and colorful. It shows all the menus [inaudible] in colors and graphics and pictures and everything like that. Keypad buttons are beveled so they are raised above the surface of the phone just a little bit. And they don't have a bad feel but they do have a bit of a plastic feel. I would wonder about their long term durability if they're punching keys hundreds of times or you're texting over several months, just hoping it would stand up. You have a couple of soft keys as well. There's a clear and a back button. Here on the top you have a handset locking key so you can lock the handset to avoid those music keys getting pressed while the phone might be in a bag or something like that. Dedicated walkman button here on the side. Here's the charger port while on this side you have a volume rocker. Volume rocker's very thin. I did have trouble finding it when the phone was on my ear. I would like something that had a little more definition. Another thing that I didn't quite like about the [inaudible] phone, is that when you take out the battery cover you'll see that you do have the memory card slot here next to the sim card slot. The memory card doesn't quite slide out without removing the battery, and we've never really liked memory cards that you have to turn off the phone or move the battery. It just doesn't make for a music friendly experience. Inside you'll find a walkman player. It's pretty much the same as you'll find on other walkman phones. It has Bluetooth: full Bluetooth. It has basic organizer functions, 1.3-megapixel camera. And most of the mid to low range features you'd expect in a walkman phone, you will find here. I'm Kent German and this is the Sony Ericsson W350a.

Sony Ericsson W350a - white (unlocked) Review
The good: The Sony Ericsson W350a offers a Walkman music player and a decent assortment of features including stereo Bluetooth and a brilliant display.
The bad: The Sony Ericsson W350a has poorly designed controls and a flimsy construction. Its call quality was unimpressive and the tiny speaker doesn't do its music player justice.
The bottom line: The Sony Ericsson W350a isn't hopeless but it's not our choice for a Walkman phone.
