Sony DVP FX930/L Video Transcript

>> Hey what's up everybody? I'm Jeff Bakalar for cnet.com. Today we're checking out the Sony DVP FX 930. Now the Sony FX 930 is a great portable DVD player with a whapping 9-inch screen and fantastic 800 x 480 resolution screen. It's definitely the best picture quality among the most recent portable DVD player's we've seen, and the screen also rotates a full 180 degrees for handheld viewing which is really cool. Below the screen are new touch buttons that Sony introduced. We weren't really too excited about them because there's no feedback when you push them. That said, the buttons do work. We just don't like the feel of them. The included remote is good although it's a bit large and what's even cooler is that there are two IR sensors on the player so you can access the remote control functionality whether it's closed or swiveled around or whatever. There's very little file compatibility. We really would have like to see a DiVx [assumed spelling] option or some sort of USB or flashcard reader on board; unfortunately there's none of that. You get your standard two-head phone jacks and an AV in and out port as well. The battery is great, lasted around six hours during our testing, and the FX 930 is available in a variety of colors. We've got the blue one right here. Overall it's a great barebones player for the best screen picture quality around. For more functionality, like DiVx and an SD card reader, we definitely want you to check out the Toshiba SDP 93S. That's going to offer you a lot of functionality for around the same place. I'm Jeff Bakalar and this has been the Sony DVP FX 930.

Sony DVP-FX930 (black) Review

The good: Hi-res 9-inch screen with 800x480 resolution; full 180-degree swivel screen; includes remote control, AV cable, and car charger; reliable 6-hour battery.

The bad: Somewhat hefty 2.7-pound weight; no USB port or flash card reader; no support for DivX or other digital video files.

The bottom line: The combination of a stunning high-resolution 9-inch screen, long battery life, and impressive design makes the Sony DVP-FX930 a winning portable DVD player.
