>> Hey, I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor for CNET Reviews and this is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T500. It's a 10-megapixel ultra compact camera capable of capturing MPEG-4, AVC/H.264 HD video at 720p. That's a lot of geek speak for saying it captures better video than most point and shoot cameras available. There's a 5x optical zoom upfront behind its slide down lens cover and on back is a 3.5-inch touch screen LCD for selecting shooting options. The only physical controls are on top. We have a power button, playback buttons, a shutter release, zoom ring and a switch for quickly going into and out of shooting photos or movies. The T500 shooting features are more pared down than we are used to from a Sony camera, but you do get things like face detection, 9-scene modes and image stabilization. But again the star here is the video quality and the T500 doesn't disappoint there, producing movies that look good on large screen HD TVs as long as you shot in good lighting. Movies in low light situations were still good, but just had noticeable noise. What the T500 doesn't do well is still photos. Our test shots look good, but we are on par with compact cameras available at much lower prices. So, if you're considering this camera, buy it for the movie capture abilities, but don't expect the photo quality to match the video quality. I'm Josh Goldman and that's the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T500. ^M00:01:34 [ Music ]

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T500 (black) Review
The good: Good video quality; attractive design; stereo mic; 5x optical zoom with image stabilization for photos and video; includes multioutput dock.
The bad: Mediocre photo quality; poor battery life; comparatively expensive.
The bottom line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T500 is a great pocket video camera despite being merely passable at snapshots.
