>> Hi, I'm Molly Wood from CNET.com here at the Sony 2009 Line Show, taking a First Look at the Sony BDV-E500W. That is the home theater system that you see behind me. Now this is an out-of-the-box all-in-one home theater system. It's a 5.1 channel system, so 5 speakers. It also includes a Blu-ray player. This disc player also plays back DVDs and CDs and has an AM/FM tuner built in, so you really do get sort of the whole thing right out of the box. You can see it's a nice, sleek, attractive-looking system overall and it also puts Sony's S-Air Wireless Streaming technology to very good use. What it does is include a receiver that you can plug your rear speakers into and it will actually send the surround signal wirelessly to the rear speakers, which means you don't have to run a cable from the front of the house or the front of the room to the back of the room which is huge for me. The system also includes this iPod cradle and I have to say that overall, I think it's shaping up to be a pretty good value. Now this home theater system should be available in the summer for around $800. For CNET.com, I'm Molly Wood. ^M00:01:05 [ Music ]
The Sony BDV-E500W is an attractive home theater system with built-in Blu-ray and wireless rear speakers, but it's too expensive and lacks streaming media services such as Netflix or Pandora found on cheaper competing systems.
The Sony BDV-E770W is one of the best Blu-ray home theater systems we've tested, with excellent sound quality, tons of streaming-media options, 3D compatibility, and wireless rear speakers. The lack of HDMI inputs is the only big omission.
The affordable Sony Bravia DAV-HDX267W home theater system is loaded with features, but a dearth of inputs and the somewhat-convoluted, wireless rear-speaker setup dampen our enthusiasm.
The LG LHB953 combines Blu-ray, tons of streaming media content, and solid A/V quality into an all-in-one home theater system that scores high on the value quotient.
Onkyo's interactive iPod docking cradle makes it easy to play your iPod over your Onkyo home-theater or stereo system.
Samsung's HT-BD1250 home theater system has built-in Blu-ray, streaming media from Netflix and Pandora, and excellent audio and video quality, making it our top budget Blu-ray all-in-one system.
With its five-disc changer, HDMI output, and integrated iPod dock, the Panasonic SC-PT660 delivers an impressive home theater value for less than $300.
The Oppo BDP-83 is an outstanding universal disc player with excellent performance on Blu-rays and DVDs and lightning-fast operational speed, but most home theater fans will balk at the high price.
Panasonic's SC-BT300 is a 7.1 home theater system with built-in Blu-ray and its tall-boy speakers help deliver very good sound quality, but it doesn't have the Netflix streaming found on some of its similarly priced competitors.
At CES 2010, Brian Tong checks out the LG Home theater system with a Wi-Fi-enabled Blu-ray player.
