Sony Alpha DSLR-A350 Video Transcript

>> Hello I'm Phil Ryan. We're taking a look at the Sony Alpha DSLR-A350. The A350 is at the top of Sony's new entry level SLR's. It's got a 14-megapixel CCD sensor and it's got sensor-shift for image stabilization which means that the image stabilization works with any lens that fits this camera. That brings us to lenses. This is not the kit lens. This is an 11 to 18 millimeter lens but the problem with lenses is that Sony just doesn't have that many inexpensive lenses. So for an entry level SLR if you want to add lenses you'll probably end up paying a lot more than you might with another system. Around back you'll see that there's a nice 2.7 inch LCD. It flips up and down so that you can shoot from high or low angles. And one nice thing about this camera is that it has a live view implementation that's really nicer than most others. It's got two sensors and there's a little sensor in the prism up top that shifts and it means that you don't have to flip the mirror up which is sort of a cumbersome thing that most other live view cameras have to do. So this is a lot faster and easier. The image quality was pretty nice up to about ISO 800 or so; it has 1600 and 3200 but those tend to be too noisy. Overall while the A-350 is a nice camera the A-300 is probably the more economical option in Sony's line. The A-350 just doesn't quite end up being worth the extra cash. I'm Phil Ryan and this is the Sony Alpha DSLR-A350. ^M00:01:48 [ Music ] ^M00:01:50

Sony Alpha DSLR-A350 (with 18-70mm lens) Review

The good: Sensor-shift image stabilization; useful Live View implementation with flip-up LCD.

The bad: Kit lens could be better; mixed performance; small viewfinder; interface annoyances.

The bottom line: Unless you're prepared to spend a disproportionate amount of money on a really good lens, the resolution bump offered by the Sony Alpha DSLR-A350 isn't worth the price.
