-Hi, I'm Ken Sherman, Senior Editor at CNET.com. I'm here to take a first look or a little bit of a weird first look at the Sonim XP1300 Core. Now, we've reviewed previous Sonim devices. Well, this is an updated version. It's stronger. It has a lot more things going for it. So, we're gonna do two things. We have a phone that's frozen in concrete-- well not frozen of course but in concrete block. We have it right here. I'm gonna call it first, so I can show that it's actually working. And then I'm gonna take the block, throw it on the floor, and just get the phone out and see if it keeps on ticking. Then I'm gonna put it actually in the anti-freeze which is bubbling right here. It's pretty cold. I'll have to measure before I start, but we're gonna [unk] someone with this. So first, I'll go ahead and call this. So, here's the concrete. See that it's nothing but concrete from here, so I'll go ahead and call the device. And just for a second; let me see that. Now, this phone can survive a million things. Here we go. So, you can see the phone actually is ringing so it is actually a phone. Something's going on in there. I'm gonna stop that, take it. We'll see how this goes. So, I'm just gonna take it and throw it in the grounds, and look at that, we have a phone. Not out of the block yet, so I'll try it one more time. Okay. Little choked up with concrete. You can see that it's a real phone, so I'm gonna call it one more time. Looks like the 8th button got frozen there a second, but there we go. So it has kept on ticking. So that's pretty cool. They did take this. They fro-- they put it in a day with concrete. It has up to 2 months of standby battery life, so it can probably sit in that block a long time. So now, I'm gonna take it. I'm just gonna test this anti-freeze. Looks like it's gonna be pretty cold. Right now, it's-- well we just tested it a minute ago and it's down to minus what? It was getting down to even past minus 20 Celsius, so below 0 Celsius; that's pretty cold. Go ahead and just drop it in. So now, we have removed it from the anti-freeze, so we're gonna try calling it one more time. Just dial the number. Now the phone has certified all the specifications you might be familiar with other rugged phones, but it does go a whole step further. I don't know many phones that could handle. So there, you can see the phone is ringing. It's a little faint just because we got some stuff clogged there in the speaker, but the phone is definitely ringing, so it is working. So, we put it in anti-freeze. That's 12 degrees plus Celsius. We put it in a concrete brick and then we smashed it around and it still keeps on ticking. So, a pretty extreme device. Of course, when we get a review of it, we'll put it through its complete phases and subject it to more tests. I'm Ken Sherman and this is Sonim XP1300 Core.
