>> I'm sitting here in the art room where all the stuff you see is actually made from recycled tires. Gilberto, why is it important to make art from recycled tires?

>> Because for art you express yourself and in Latin America and the world, one of the biggest problems is the impossibility of the adolescents to express themselves. And one of the reasons of violence is expression. They cannot express themselves. And I want to invite people to do art express that this kind of thing has a lot of different meaning because when you think there's a tire in the streets and you make them something beautiful like this chair or this table like this, they feel that they can change something that's dirty for beautiful thing. In some way they receive this message without any [inaudible] nothing. I can change my life and probably going to [inaudible].

>> It's not just art though. What are some of the things that you put into this neighborhood?

>> What we developed an idea here that you called teaching neighborhood. We make all the neighborhood the classroom. The classroom for everything to make furniture, to make music, to make graffiti, to make problems of computing, to make photos, to make videos, to make newspapers -- whatever. The idea is a place where you can learn things 24 hours a day. Actually, we call this 24-hours learning neighborhood. We don't sleep. If you come here 6 o'clock in the morning, someone has to teach something, that's our dream.

>> So technology is a piece of this, you have an internet lab inside of a restaurant, what's the purpose of putting those two things next to each other?

>> Because for us, there's no difference between virtual lives and presencial lives. One we're putting together that woman making clothes in an old machine in the old fashion machine, in some way she's expressing herself, but in some ways she's a contact to bring other people. The internet follows the same thing. The same way that you can find someone using this 20 grand -- hundred Best Buy machine, you are going to put all the person without machine which is going to enable him or her to be in the movie or in the New York Times site. ^M00:02:23 [ Music ]
