>> Jeff: Hey, what's going on, I'm Jeff Bakalar for CNET.com, today we have a first look at the SlingPlayer Mobile software for the iPhone. Now the SlingPlayer Mobile finally arrives on the iPhone it allows you to watch and control your cable or satellite box and or your DVR directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch through your Slingbox which is connected at home. Now this application has been readily available for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry users but it's finally coming to the App Store after a bunch of speed bumps and legalities. Primarily all of the functionality found in the other SlingPlayer Mobile platforms is still intact here you still have access to a menu bar that lets you use a remote like interface on screen as well as the ability to switch Sling devices and manage your favorite channels. What's new here is the gestures you can swipe left or right to scroll between favorites and you can swipe up or down to change the channel on your Slingbox. Now the SlingPlayer Mobile software will work with any Slingbox device but officially Sling won't support the classic AV and Tuner models. That just means that if you have a problem when you're using one of those older Slingboxes the company won't help you out with troubleshooting. Now here's the bummer SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone and the iPod Touch only works with WiFi you can't stream at all so you'll need to be in a WiFi hotspot if you want to use it. Also, we should note that it'll probably perform better on your own home network than it will in a public WiFi spot with people sharing that connection it's something you might want to consider. Performance wise the SlingPlayer Mobile software performed really well. The gestures are a bit sluggish but overall they worked alright. Picture quality will always depend on your personal connection but for our experience it was very good. Now SlingPlayer Mobile will cost you $30.00 on the App Store which is what they've charged for the other versions of the software on other platforms. I'm Jeff Bakalar and this has been the SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone and iPod Touch. ^M00:02:10 [ Music ]
