Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator Headphones Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Justin Yu with cnet.com. This is a first look at the Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator headphones. The Aviators are collaborative effort between Skullcandy and Jay-Z's music publishing company and that 150 dollars are among the pricey scans the company offers. We have our reservations about any company marketing 150 dollar anything to kids, but these headphones are now recommendation for an attractive design, in line remote, and impressive sound quality. The Roc Nation Aviators come in black, brown and white, but they all feature the soft leather headband that cushions the stainless steel lining of frame. In terms of sound design, Skullcandy has a history of overpowering base to appease younger listeners, but the Roc Nation Aviator has a sound signature that would lie heavier on the mid range with the sparkle to the treble that blends well with the base and that's not to say that the low end is under whelming can handle hip hop. In fact, I actually prefer the smooth base of the Aviator over the booming monster beat by Dre headphones. For the clear focus and instrument separation, not to mention the beats caused double the price. You can read my full review on the cnet.com, but that's gonna do it for me. I'm Justin Yu. These are the Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator headphones and that sounds good to you.
The Skullcandy iCon Soft headphones offer up style and sound that only a tween or teen could love.
The Skullcandy Double Agent headphones offer a unique and stylized all-in-one design, but they're not particularly comfortable, and sound quality is subpar. Unless your main goal is to do away with wires and stand out from the crowd, these are not the best option.
The Shure SE530 headphones offer exceptional clarity; deep, tight bass; rich, enveloping sound; and great noise isolation.
The Heartbeats by Lady Gaga Headphones are undeniably unique and there's little doubt that they'll attract fashionistas far and wide, but prospective buyers should be wary of potential fit issues and the overpowering low-end response.
The Citiscape Metro on-ear headphones have a great sense of style for a budget-priced headphone, but the sound lacks clarity.
With a sleek design, a range of ear tips, and supreme sound reproduction, the Ultimate Ears 700 headphones are worthy of an audiophile's ear and earn our recommendation.
The Urbanears Plattan headphones are all about style, which unfortunately doesn't leave much room for great sound in this case. Beware of mushy bass, nasally mids, and an absence of clarity.
Although sound quality isn't the greatest, the Skullcandy Smokin' Buds provide a funky design and some compelling features for the price. They're a solid budget option for music phone owners.
The Diddybeats earphones offer a great balance of style, durability, features, and sound quality, making them a good option for anyone looking for nice in-ear headphones with some character.
This comfortable $99 on-ear headphone goes heavy on the bass but a little light on clarity.
Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator Headphones (Black) Review
The good: The stylish Roc Nation Aviator headphones reach beyond Skullcandy's tween demographic and bring a sophisticated look and detailed sound design to the mobile market.
The bad: The Aviators are light on bass and may not satisfy those expecting thumping sound.
The bottom line: The style-savvy Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviator headphones earn our recommendation for balancing a unique thematic design with exceptional clarity in spite of a slightly passive low-end response.
