Welcome to Tap that App, Im Jasmine France and this is the show where we cover the hottest apps in the mobile space. This week, I have an app just itching to get on your iPhone or Android device this holiday season: ShopSavvy Barcode Scanner. As the name suggests, this app uses your phones built-in camera to scan the barcode on any product packaging or book cover. It then populates a list of prices from nearby brick-and-mortar retailers as well as online outlets, letting you shop for competitive pricing with just that one touch of a button. As with any shopping app worth its salt, ShopSavvy will map out the locations carrying the item of interest. Even better, the iPhone version offers a blue dot feature that indicates where the product is in stock. Whats more, the latest version of ShopSavvy for iOS includes a new Deals section, designed specifically for your inner bargain shopper. This feature handily provides info on shipping promos, coupon codes, rebates, and weekend sales. Both versions of the app can also alert you when the price on a given item drops to a specified level. Finally, no app these days is complete without some social functionality. To that end, ShopSavvy integrates with Twitter and Facebook, letting you share the money-saving love with friends. Of course, the best part about ShopSavvy is that its totally free. Thats what I call an app worthy of its bargain-hunting promise. Thats it for this weeks show, if you have any suggestions, send them to Tap That App at cnet.com. And be sure to tune in next week for more app-y goodness.
