SF IndieFest trailer: "December Ends"
After his mother tragically dies, Chris' father falls apart and Chris turns to running drugs for pot dealer Hayden to make the rent payments. When he meets Audrey, Hayden's girlfriend who has been away at art school, he instantly falls for her.
Hayden expands his business into the cocaine trade, but he can't put his past addiction behind him and most of it goes up his own nose. One night he ODs and ends up unconscious in the hospital. Audrey and Chris spend that same night together.
With Hayden in the hospital, Chris's cousin and best friend Brian begins supplying his customers. When Hayden recovers and learns what Brian is doing, he demands a meeting. The meeting quickly turns into a fight and when Brian goes for his gun, Hayden grabs it and beats him over the head with it until he's unconscious. He then leaves Brian there, bleeding in the cold. Brian does not survive the night.
When Chris learns Hayden killed Brian, he knows he has to take revenge for his cousin's death and protect Audrey from a dangerous man. He goes to the New Year's Eve party where Hayden is dealing and looks for him. Audrey comes to the party as well, hoping to stop Chris. When she bursts into the room where a rival dealer is teaching Hayden a lesson, Hayden reaches for his gun and fires.
Chris hears the shots and runs to the room. Seeing only a bloody and frantic Hayden shaking Audrey, he raises his gun and does what he came to do.

SF IndieFest trailer: "Kissing On the Mouth"
Chicago filmmaker Joe Swanberg's "Kissing on the Mouth" is a confrontational and startling film that pulls out all the stops in the way it explores issues of sex and infidelity within post-college relationships. Ellen is sleeping with her exboyfriend and trying to ignore the fact he's looking for more than just sex. Her roommate, Patrick, isn't helping matters with his secretive and jealous behavior. The small cast served as the only crew on this intimate, often humorous film featuring frank dialogue, explicit sex, and real interviews with recent college graduates.

Legend tells of three magic diamonds that, if in the wrong hands, can be united to create a force powerful enough to freeze the sun. When the evil sorcerer Zeebad (Jon Stewart) escapes from his ancient prison, he vows to exact revenge by deep-freezing the earth forever. Determined to save the world, a fellowship of four unlikely heroes band together to foil Zeebad's villainous plot. Led by the candy-loving mutt Doogal (Kenan Thompson), friends Dylan (Jimmy Fallon), Brian (William H. Macy) and Ermintrude (Whoopi Goldberg) all embark on an epic adventure to save the world. In order to find the diamonds before Zeebad, they must climb icy mountains, navigate fiery pits of molten lava, sail across vast oceans and pass through a booby-trapped temple guarded by an army of ninja skeleton warriors. Along the way they learn that the most powerful weapon is their friendship ? which even Zeebad's evil magic cannot destroy.
A man (Adam Sandler) who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City runs into his former college roommate (Don Cheadle). Rekindling the friendship is the one thing able to help the man recover from his grief.
Sage Francis began rapping when he was 8 years old. Hidden in a closet in his parents' Rhode Island home, he'd rhyme into a cheap tape recorder for hours on end. You might know him simply as a battle emcee or a spoken word poet. Heart-draining confessionalist or Old School revivalist. Political dissident, DIY business expert, friend, asshole, or one-time ice cream server. Hell, you might even know him as hip-hop's doom. Or the art form's redemption, for that matter. Sage Francis is many things to many people---and probably even more to himself---but if there's anything he isn't, it's quiet.
Dispossessed twenty-year old Bruno (Jeremie Renier) lives with his eighteen-year-old girlfriend Sonia (Deborah Francois) in Seraing, an eastern Belgian steel town. They live off Sonia's unemployment benefits along with the panhandling and petty thefts committed by Bruno and his gang. Their lives change forever when Sonia gives birth to their child, Jimmy. She returns home after Jimmy's birth to find that Bruno has sublet their apartment to total strangers. After an initial and promising change of heart about becoming a father and changing his ways, Jimmy becomes little more to Bruno than a potential source of wealth. Desperate for money and unable to face his parental responsibilities, Bruno sells Jimmy to a black market connection, who promises to find the child an adoptive home. Realizing the error in his actions Bruno sets out to try and undo his callous deed, leading him to a powerful personal transformation.
Spring has sprung, and Verne and his woodland friends awaken from their long winter's nap to discover that a tall, green "thing" has mysteriously cropped up right through the middle of their home. Enter RJ, an opportunistic raccoon, who explains that the world beyond the hedge is the "gateway to the good life" where peculiar creatures called humans live to eat, rather than eat to live. Suspicious and even a little jealous of RJ, the ever-cautious Verne wants to keep his blended family safely on their side of the hedge. But, proving the adage that one man's garbage is another man's-or rather animal's-treasure, the manipulative RJ tries to convince the woodland band that there is little to fear and everything to gain from their over-indulgent new neighbors. Eventually, RJ and Verne form an unlikely friendship as they learn to co-exist with-and even exploit-this strange new world called suburbia. With the voice talents of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Steve Carell, William Shatner, Avril Lavigne, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Wanda Sykes, Nick Nolte, Omid Djalili, Allison Janney, and Thomas Haden Church.

Award-winning short-filmmaker James Bonner's feature debut, is an artful horror that explores the place where salvation, love, and insanity come crashing together; where four people go in--and only one comes out.
Nicole is trapped. She's caught in an abusive marriage that brings new meaning to the phrase until death do us part. Her only friend, an online pal named Amy, admonishes Nicole to kill her husband before he does her in first. Nicole reluctantly agrees. She murders her husband and flees for Amy's distant home--and sanctuary.
But Amy is not what she seems: cruel and manipulative, she toys with anyone in reach. She's entrapped her own spouse, Chandler, and driven him half mad with her constant taunting and humiliations. Amy doesn't realize how desperate Chandler has become. The trap is set and a game of cat and mouse ensues in this harrowing, painfully funny story about body disposal and other problems with burying the past.
If you enjoy movies that are well written and acted, crisply edited, colorful, fast paced, visually dense, and consistently surprising, then Michigan-based, (and avowed fan of local hero Sam Raimi) James Bonner's "Trap" is an excellent entertainment choice. Find a date you really trust for Saturday night and get your tickets early.

Three middle-schoolers take on greedy land developers, corrupt politicians, and clueless cops in this mystery adventure based on Carl Hiaasen's Newbery Honor-winning book. Produced by Jimmy Buffett, Frank Marshall (Seabiscuit, Signs) and Walden Media (The Chronicles of Narnia, Holes), "Hoot" revolves around a Montana boy who moves to Florida and unearths a disturbing threat to a local population of endangered owls. Determined to protect his new environment, the boy and his friends fight to prevent the adults from making a big mistake. Wil Shriner wrote the screenplay and directed the film, which stars Luke Wilson, Logan Lerman, Brie Larson, and Cody Linley. The movie also features original music from producer Jimmy Buffett.
Matthew Dear: "Don and Sherri"
From the album Asa Breed on the Ghostly International label, this video premiered on MTV2's subterranean, 10.22.08. Directors Judy Welfare and Jeremy Hollister capture much of the song's fervent busyness by using a special 5 camera rig splayed out in a semi-circle and attached to the bed of a truck. With Dear literally hanging out over the street, they used mirrors to create a layered effect, similar to the vocals on Don and Sherri, except these shots were achieved for real, in-camera.
