>>[Background music] What's up? I'm Brian Tong and welcome to the Apple Bite. Apple announced their quarterly earnings this week so let's start there. Apple has racked up 1.14 billion dollars in profit for the fiscal Q4 and Steve Job's called it one of their best in Apple's history. The Big A sold more Mac's compared to any quarter in it's history and it sold more iPhones in Q4 than all the previous quarters combined. Are the guys that think different immune to the rough economic times? We'll keep tabs on this one for you. Apple has busted through its goal of selling 10 million iPhones for 2008, 6.9 million of them were sold in fiscal Q4 and its helped Apple snag about 17 percent of the US markel market and it's the second best selling US mobile handset according to MPD. So what phone still holds the top spot as the best seller? The Motorola Razr V3, the Razr. I'll tell you how the iPhone gets that top spot, free iPhone with a contract baby. Listen to me Steve O, I'll make you millions, more. Now wanna get a free streaming video of network TV episode Life, Friends and the Office on your Apple TV? Tom Merritt shows you how in this insiders secret.
>>Tom Merritt: Boxy is a service based on XBMC that is currently in private alpha. You can get some free invites actually they were nice enough to set up one just for you at boxy.tv/CNET. Then you'll have to download and set that service up separately. Well let's get started on the mod. Make sure you have your Apple TV turned off. Then make sure you have a USB stick with at least 1 gigabyte of space. Download the ATV USB creator from Google Code. Insert a bootable USB drive into your Mac. Run the ATV USB creator. Select ATV patch stick. Make sure the XBMC and boxy plug ins are selected. Now make sure your USB drive is selected and press create using. Again, make sure your Apple TV is off. Remove the USB drive and plug it in to your Apple TV. Power on your Apple TV and the patch stick will run the ATV boot loader. After the boot loader finishes, remove it and restart your Apple TV. It now has options for boxy XBMC right there on the main menu. Click on boxy then select update boot launcher. This is gonna help prevent some problems with the remote. Then select XBMC boxy, then update and then boxy. This will download boxy from the net. Once it's done installing, restart your Apple TV, then do the same thing for XBMC. You'll probably want to explore the facts at XBMC and the blog at boxy to make the most of your new capabilities. That's it for this insider's secret. I'm Tom Merritt, CNET.com
>>Brian Tong: Alright, thanks Tom. Boxy also just added support for Hulu, CBS, and Comedy Central content so it's good to see someone is doing something with the Apple TV right now, even if it's just a hobby for Apple. The iPhone 3G has been out for a while and Apple is all about the looks. So we wanted to examine who's the hot one between the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G in eye of the beholder. [Background music] Which phone looks classier? The original iPhone has a brushed metal surface that's classy classy and which phone is more versatile? Well the iPhone 3G gives you color choices with black or white. And finally which phone can you hold upside down where you're more likely to get away with it? Charlie Sheen knows it's not the OGI phone. Sheen screwed that one up big time and the bloggers let him know. And hey, thug number 17 in the bionic women, you're guilty too.
>>What? If that was the iPhone 3G at least it wouldn't have been that bad. The Apple Bite's verdict? iPhone 3G. Now we wanna here from you so email us at the Applebite@CNET.com. Thanks for watching and come [Background music] back next time for another bite of the apple. ^M00:04:00 [ Music ]

In other news, the MPAA is trying to clamp down on your analog hole and break your DVR all at the same time and Apple's Snow Leopard is having a rough landing ... apparently because of the picture on the box.
