>> There's a maxim in the world of audio speakers, and that is the really good ones tend to look distinctive as well. That's clearly being backed up by these from a company called "Scandyna." Hi, it's Brian Cooley here at CES 2009, taking a look at these very unusual speakers. Smallpod and Bigpod, looking a little bit like the Michelin Man, but what's going on here is a shape of the speaker cabinet that has been carefully designed to reduce reflections of sound inside the case, which leads to all kinds of distortion. That's why they look like they do. By the way, this big one over here? This one is actually made in the same factory that makes Legos. This company spun off from B&L many years ago, but they have obviously the design legacy, and they claim, the quality of sound legacy being maintained as well. Now, the smaller one has been brought out for use with your computer, or even your portable products, and it's amplified. You can see right there, you've got a knob to turn it up and down. Built-in digital amplification. The big guy is passive speaker, and you actually drive that with an amp that you can provide. Now the price on these isn't cheap. These are not throwaway speakers. You're looking at 600 bucks a pair for the little guy, 1,798 a pair for the big one. This company also has an amp coming out soon that is ideally mated to these, has an iPod dock, and they have some unusual, sort of bulbous-looking subwoofers that match the family. Now again, that's the Smallpod and the Bigpod from Scandyna. ^M00:01:27 [ Music ]
