>> I'm Nicole Lee, associate editor for CNET.com, and this is a First Look at the Sanyo SCP-2700 from Sprint. This is a very basic messaging phone for sprint, and it's one of the biggest trends these days in cell phones is the very simple phones with full QWERTY keyboards for easy text messaging. So on the front here, you do get a 2.2-inch display. It's only a 65,000-color support display, but for a phone this basic, it doesn't really matter. Very slim and lightweight as well, underneath the display, you do get the navigation array. It has a dedicated text-messaging key, as well as the foursquare navigation toggle. Underneath that, you do get a full QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is really easy to use. It's very tactile; all the keys are raised above the surface. There's a dedicated emoticon key on the bottom as well. On the side, you do get the volume rocker, a dedicated camera key, and the charger jack. On the other side, you do get a 2.5-millimeter headset jack. On the back, here, is a 1.3-megapixel camera. The Sanyo SCP-2700 has pretty slim features. There's no 3G on here, no EVDLs, pretty basic phone in that sense. There's no music player, as well, and the camera only has a still camera mode, and no camcorder mode. The main feature of the SEP 27, however, is messaging. And it does messaging very, very well. It supports email as well as instant messaging and the usual text and multi-media messaging. There are threaded text messaging support, so you can see a conversation between you and the other person. It's supports IM through all the different services: AOL, Yahoo, as well as MSN Messenger. And as far as email goes, it supports all of the different web email services like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL Mail, and so forth. It can access your corporate email in one of two ways. One is via the Outlook Web Access Server if your company does run the Outlook Web Access Server. In your case, just enter in your server information, your log in, and your password, and you're good to go. The other way is to use Sprint's own mobile email personal client, which requires a software download. It's a little bit more tedious to configure. Other features of the SCP-2700 include GPS, Bluetooth, as well as a wireless web browser. Probably the best part of the SCP-2700, however, is that it's really, really affordable. It's only $30.00 with a two-year service agreement, which makes it one of the cheapest messaging phones out there. I'm Nicole Lee, and this has been a First Look at the Sanyo SCP-2700. ^E00:02:37
