>> I'm Nicole Lee, associate editor for cnet.com. And this is the Sanyo Pro 700 from Sprint. This is one of the very few Qchat phones available from Sprint. QChat is a new technology, it is a CDMA upgrade to Iden [assumed spelling], which is what Nextel uses for direct connect, their Nextel's push to talk service. So it is one of the very first CDMA phones to be compatible with Nextel direct connect. As you can see, this is basically the ruggedized version of the Sanyo Pro 200. The only different really, aside from the features, is that this one is ruggedized as [inaudible] exterior. So this is built to withstand dust, shock, vibration. It's a very ruggedized, military standard phone. Aside from that, it has very much the same features as the Pro 200. It has the external monochrome display, you have the same buttons on the side, the volume rocker, the dedicated push to talk key. On the other side you also get the headset jack and dedicated side call key and side end keys. These two side keys basically let you make calls and end calls without opening the phone. Open up the phone, and you get same two inch display as the Pro 200, you get a very nice navigation array here, you get a dedicated text button, web key, a back key, and [inaudible] talk and end keys, as well as a speakerphone key. And all the keys as you can see, they're very nice and raised up off the surface, very rubbery, very easy to dial and text by feel. And you also get a speakerphone grill. As far as features go, aside from the push to talk service, you also get text and multimedia messaging, there's also EVDO [inaudible], there's also a mobile web browser, which is really fast with the EVDO, and you also get GPS which is really good for navigation. Call quality was really good as well. The speakerphone quality was amazing, it was like very loud and clear, very crisp. The Sony Pro 700 is available right now for seventy dollars with service. Western Digital My Passport Studio (320GB, Mac) Review
The good: Decent performance; bus-powered; capacity gauge works as port cover; Mac OS X-ready; cool and quiet during operation; five-year warranty; low cost per gigabyte.
The bad: No option for external power; no FireWire 800.
The bottom line: Whether you use a Mac or a PC, the 320GB Western Digital My Passport Studio is the perfect compact external drive with a low cost per GB, a compact design, decent performance, and a surprisingly lengthy warranty.
