>> I'm Nicole Lee, associate editor for CNET.com and this is the Sanyo Katana 2. This is the sequel to last year's Sanyo Katana and as you can see the design is much more streamlined, it's a lot thinner and sleeker. There is still the VGA camera up top here with a simple 1 inch external LCD. On the side here is the dedicated camera button. On the other side is the volume rocker, but these are pretty skinny and kind of small so they are not our favorite aspect of the phone. On the other side is also the headset jack. Open the phone up, we get a pretty decent looking screen, it is sixty five thousand color supported which is not our favorite but it's pretty decent. Moving onto the keypad, the buttons are pretty well spaced apart, they are kind of flat and smooth but they are raised enough above the surface so you can dial by feel if you need to. Features are pretty much the same as the previous Sanyo Katana, the only difference is that the Bluetooth is Bluetooth 2.0 and there is an increase in memory of up to 20 MB, but otherwise features are the same, it's the same old VGA camera, speakerphone. There is a GPS in here so that you can use location-based service like Sprint navigator, but otherwise it is the same as last year's Katana. So if you have last year's Katana, I wouldn't rush out to buy this one because it's pretty much the same. My name is Nicole Lee and this has been the Sanyo Katana 2. ^M00:01:26 [ Music ]

Sanyo Katana II 6650 - black (Sprint) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Sanyo Katana II offers a more streamlined design and increased memory when compared to the first Katana. It's also very affordable.

The bad: The Sanyo Katana II is not that much of an upgrade from its predecessor. The photo quality was also subpar, and we felt the side buttons were too skinny.

The bottom line: While the Sanyo Katana II is not hugely improved over the first Katana, it's still a pretty good phone, especially for its price range.
