>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Samsung Upstage also called SPHM620. This is a new phone for Sprint service. If you're in to cell phones you've probably seen this phone before as the Samsung Ultra Music. That phone did originate in Asia but Sprint is the first carrier to bring it to the United States, of course, that is in the CBMA version. You might think it looks like nothing from this side, right, it looks like a normal candy bar phone but actually this phone has a complete split personality. If you look right on the back, there you go, you can see it. It actually looks like an mp3 player. So it does have a mp3 player phone. You might get a little confused but it actually serves both functions well. It's a completely innovative design. We'll start first on the phone side briefly. You have a very small screen here. It's probably too small. We get that Samsung didn't want to make the phone too big so they have this small screen but the text is really small and you're going to want to take a close look at it. Camera lens is here on the top. It doesn't come with a flash but even though this display is so small you can use it to take self portraits. Here on this side we have a flip button. Probably never seen a flip button on a phone before, what that does it just takes power from one side, press that button and turns it on on the other. Here on the mp3 player side we have a very nice screen, it's very big, bright and colorful. Moving down to the navigation toggle you can see it's very big, square. It is a touch pad. When inside of menu you can move around using simple presses to the up, down, left and right. If you don't want to tab you can also use this keypad to slide. It takes acclamation but it is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. It's important to note that this phone does not come with this replaceable battery but it is kind of cool as it does come with an extended battery. This is included in the price of the phone. Snap in the phone like this, that increases the talk time up to about 6 and half, seven hours, also protects the phone. You can even talk on it while it's in the wallet or you can turn it like this and watch the video play your music. Overall it's pretty powerful, has a lot of features and what I really like is that it successfully combines the urbaganomics [assumed spelling] of an mp3 player and a cell phone into one device.
