>> David: Hi, I'm David Kastmeyer [assumed spelling] with CNET and this is the Samsung UNB6000 Series. I'm next to the 46 inch version but this review also applies to the 40 inch 55 inch version all those screen sizes have pretty much identical style and features as well as picture quality. This TV's style is really the main thing about it; this is a thin LED edgelit LCD television so if you look at it from the side it's only about an inch -- a little bit larger than an inch thick, so really if you want that kind of very slim high tech look this is one of the better TV's out there for it. Of course if you mount it on the wall it's gonna be almost flush with that wall. If you look around the edge of the screen here you'll notice that Samsung uses the red coloration that's this touch of color look there aren't too many other colors available so if you don't like red then you're kind of out of luck. The stand itself also matches and, of course, there's this sweet swivel here so you can really show off that thin look. We also kind of like the seethrough part of the swivel. This TV also has a lot of features if you go into the menu system you'll find plenty of ways to adjust the picture from Gamma to color temperature to even a color management system so it's nice if you like to do a little bit of tweaking. This TV also features Samsung's Infolink Service which is kind of a basic interactive feature it has weather, news and stock ticker information so if you want that stuff to pop up while you're watching TV or during commercials it's kind of a neat convenience. The connectivity on this TV is pretty sparce in terms of Analog inputs but there are 4 digital HDMI inputs as well as a single PC input and a component video input that also doubles as a composite input. Picture quality on the 600 Series was very good although we did find some issues that might have been caused by its Edgelit LED. The first one was that when it went to very dark scenes the entire screen would actually turn completely black and then it would come back up again. We found that a little bit distracting. The screen also didn't have the best uniformity across it, the edges in particular were a little bit brighter than the middle. Color on this TV was excellent, however, and we did like that the black levels when the scenes that weren't completely dark did get nice and deep so you can get that nice home-theater look. On the flip side we really weren't fans of the reflective screen it does have the tendency in a bright room to catch some reflections that we did find, again, a little bit distracting, but overall picture quality was very good. The good: Produces relatively deep black levels; accurate color; very good dejudder processing; sleek styling with 1.2-inch thick panel; extensive picture controls; extremely energy-efficient.
The bad: Expensive; less-uniform screen than other LCDs; poor off-angle viewing; backlight fluctuates with program brightness; dark areas tinged bluer; shiny screen can cause reflections in bright rooms; red frame isn't for everyone.
The bottom line: Although it delivers fine picture quality, except for a few flaws, the ultrathin Samsung UNB6000 series will appeal mainly to style seekers who don't mind spending more money.
