>> Hi everyone, this is Eric Franklin from CNET.com. And today we're taking a first look at the Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ. This is the second monitor that's compatible with the NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit. The first was a ViewSonic FuHzion VX2265wm. The NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit comes with these 3D glasses here, and this IR emitter here. Check out our review and our first look video on those to get more details. All right let's look at the basics of the monitor. It's a 22-inch display with a 16 by 10 aspect ratio, and a 1680 by 1050 resolution. It has a glossy black finish, and it has this plastic lip that runs along the bottom of the bezel here. The foot stand is oval shaped and wide, but we felt it wobbled a lot when we knocked it from the sides. The Samsung has a twisted pneumatic panel, and as such its viewing angle from the sides leaves a lot to be desired. The screen tilts back about 25 degrees, but there are no other ergonomic options. Like the ViewSonic, the Samsung only has a DVI connection. Unlike the ViewSonic, the Samsung has an onscreen display, and is actually pretty useful. Overall we felt the Samsung had better performance compared to the ViewSonic in games and movies. While the ViewSonic had this kind of yellow tint to its screen, the Samsung on the other hand had a low black level, and therefore it's colors were more accurate. Thanks to this 120-hertz refresh rate, when playing a fast moving game the textures don't blur as much when you pan the camera from side to side, like they would in a 60-hertz refresh. The $399 Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ is the best choice for 120-hertz, 3D, stereoscopic gaming on the PC with great movie playback to boot. If you need a 22 incher and you're not interested in 3D stereoscopic gaming, there are cheaper alternatives like the Gateway HD2201, which can be found for about $200 bucks less. Once again this is Eric Franklin. This has been the first look at the Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ.

Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ Review

The good: The Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ offers great movies and games performance and has a useful onscreen display. The monitor is aesthetically pleasing and is compatible with Nvidia's 3D Vision Kit. We saw cleaner textures in fast-moving games in the 120Hz mode.

The bad: The Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ is expensive for what it offers. It only supports DVI. There's no screen height adjustment, rotation, or pivoting.

The bottom line: The Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ is the best choice for 120Hz 3D stereoscopic gaming on the PC, with great movie playback to boot. For all other needs, there are cheaper alternatives.
