Samsung Suede Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET at CES 2011 in Las Vegas. We are taking a look the Samsung Suede. This is a new phone for Cricket. It is available for $199 and that is without a 2-year contract, keep in mind. So what's interesting about this phone isn't actually the hardware itself, it's the software. This is the very first phone, but is debuting Cricket's new MuveMusic system and what this is is it's basically unlimited music downloads, ring tones, and all sorts of music-related content. It's $55 a month for everything that includes your voice, your data, all of the music that you can possibly consume in a month, and e-mail, IM, testing, all of that great stuff, just $55 a month. As for the hardware itself, the Samsung Suede is pretty basic. There is a 3-megapixel camera on the back. There is also a micro SD card slot behind the back cover. It does have a touchscreen phone and it's running the Samsung TouchWiz 2.0 interface. Again, this is not a Smartphone, but it is the very first phone with Cricket's MuveMusic service. I'm Jessica Dolcourt for CNET and this has been the Samsung Suede for Cricket.

Samsung Suede SCH-R710 (Cricket Wireless) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Samsung Suede features Cricket's innovative Muve Music service, strong call quality, an excellent speakerphone, and a good camera.

The bad: The phone interface is outdated and slow to respond, and the touch screen is small. Muve Music still has some kinks.

The bottom line: Cricket gets kudos for the Samsung Suede's compelling music features, but both Samsung and Cricket have flaws to fix.
