>> Hi, I'm Kent German, I'm a Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we'll take a first look at a Samsung SPH M610. This is a new phone for Sprint service. Sprint and Samsung are advertising this as the thinnest clam shell phone around. And while that may be true at the moment, we certainly don't think that's gonna last long. Overall it is a little more stylish in the Razor. I do like the black coloring. Also like the rounder edges here on the bottom. Just gives it a little bit of a streamline look. Not so boxy like the Razor is. One thing I didn't like on the exterior is the external display is very small. Can't understand why Samsung chose to scrunch it way up here next to the edge. Feel like it could be a lot more useful here in the center. Also since it's monochrome, it won't show photo caller id. Here on the top you have a rotating camera lens, goes all the way to the front, goes all the way to the back as well. When the phone is open, that means you can use it for taking your own photo or for photos facing away from you. One thing I didn't like either is the micro SD slot. It's actually located behind the battery cover. Can't see it here. You also have to remove the battery to pry it out as well. Not the greatest arrangement. I understand that thin phones, it's kinda hard to put the macro SD slot in, but think Samsung could do just a little better than that. Open up the phone. Inside, typical Samsung display here. Very bright and colorful. Great for looking at photos, playing games, graphics, going through the menus. Of course like most Samsung displays though, it does disappear in direct light. And in any case, it's a lot better than the external screen. Like most thin phones, the M610 does have a very flat keypad to keep that phone extra thin. Unlike a lot of phones however, this does have a little bit of texture to each key. The material covering them is a little different, so your finger can definitely feel when it's sliding over them. Still a little hard to dial by feel, you won't exactly know where the five key is or any of the keys around it. But overall, a little better and not so slick. Did find the keys a little large though, which is great and also they're spaced far enough apart. Overall the phone does have pretty distant feature set, Blue Tooth, speaker phone, and e video connection for Sprint's music store and their Sprint Powervision Service.
