Samsung SGH-T539 Video Transcript

>> Hi this is Ken Sherman senior editor at CNET dot com. Today we'll take a first look at the Samsung SGHT539, also called the Beat it's a new phone for T Mobile service. You can see that we have a pretty much standard flip phone design, not a whole lot to say except there is something interesting down here. There are actually external music controls it's called the Beat because the phone does have a music player in it, it's not the fanciest music player around, features are kind of limited but still plays music none the less and of course T Mobile doesn't have a 3D service yet so you can't download music over the air or anything like that. Play and pause, just call up the music player automatically too so don't have to open the phone. So pretty useful, here in the surrounding out is a green ring; bright green certainly contrasts with the black, not sure why they chose that color. Section not a scroll wheel even though it looked like it's a speaker so I do like the placement of the speaker, a lot of times they put speakers in the back of the phone which I really don't like. Display is monochrome but it does work as a color view finder for the camera lens which is right there, it's pretty small, no flash, and all shows photo color ID. Here on this side we have a volume rocker, we also have a jack for the headset or the charger so remember that's one jack so you can only use one at a time. Inside the phone, pretty nice display not the most vibrant or rich found a little bit washed out here and there but it's fine for this type of phone. Keypad buttons and navigation controls were a little disappointing, very flat with the surface of the phone so there's really no texture, it's hard to dial by feel on the other hand the navigation controls are kind of large which I liked, a couple of soft keys, we have a T zone button for shortcuts, you can program what's in there, talk and end buttons and a clear button. The toggle also works as shortcuts, didn't like however that if you press the OK button in standby mode you don't open the menu you have to go over here to open the menu. Phone has blue tooth, it has speaker phone, voice dialing so kind of midrange of features, also has that music player that I talked about so if you're looking for music phones in T Mobile there are a few better out there. Call quality wasn't bad so overall not a bad buy but just nothing spectacular. I'm Ken Sherman and this a Samsung SGHT539. [ music ]
