>> Hi I'm Ken Sherman, Senior Editor here at cnet.com. Today we're gonna take a first look at the Samsung SGHT 429. This is a new phone for T-Mobile service. Samsung tends to recycle cell phone designs they like. We have seen this design before in other Samsung phones with T-Mobile. Basically a slim slider shape, slide up the side, slide up the front there and you can see it exposes the keypad, pretty good at display; it's 65,000 colors so it's not the most vivid display but on this caliber phone it's probably appropriate. Navigation buttons have a typical Samsung design, there's that sort of squarish toggle with a couple of soft keys, talk and end key and a clear button. Raising up the phone does expose a camera lens here on the back so there's the camera lens for the VGA camera and a self portrait mirror. There is no flash but a VGA camera phone usually doesn't really matter much. The keypad buttons are raised above the surface of the phone just a bit which is unusual for a slider phone; usually to accommodate that slider mechanism they're completely flat so I did like that. Also the numbers are kind of large and the backlighting is bright so that's a good thing. I had no trouble dialing by feel; the phone mechanism is a little lose I thought; it could be a little stiffer but otherwise still open and close with ease. Overall though, pretty simple phone, not a bad phone by any means. It just doesn't have a lot we haven't seen before. I'm Ken Sherman and this is the Samsung SGHT 429. ^M00:01:14 [ Music ] ^M00:01:16

The good: The Samsung SGH-T429 offers decent call quality, a tactile keypad, and Bluetooth.

The bad: The Samsung SGH-T429 isn't a true world phone and it can't record video. Also, its speakerphone volume was rather low.

The bottom line: The Samsung SGH-T429 performs well, but even with Bluetooth it's a rather unremarkable cell phone.
