>> Kent German: Hi. I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today, we're taking a first look at the Samsung SGHT239. It is available with T-Mobile's pre-paid service, and as such, it is pretty basic as far as its design and features. Not a whole lot going on. Really just for making calls and sending messages. Does have a camera, but it is pretty basic, and so just for taking those quick shots when you're out. We have a slider design that is very typical Samsung, especially the design of the navigation controls right there. Looks a lot like Samsung slider phones we've seen the past three years or maybe even a little more. Can't really do much with the design, though. The main display is pretty colorful. About an average resolution so not too bad but shows colors well. It's pretty bright. Shows graphics relatively well, but not as high end as you're going to see on some of the more fancy media phones. Slider feels pretty good. Goes up and down. You can do it with one hand. Clicks into place at either end. Like with a lot of slider phones, the keypad is flat, but the keys do have a nice feeling. They're not too slippery. They don't feel too cheap. So I was able to get in there and dial quickly and text long messages, and it felt pretty comfortable. Inside, you'll find a VGA camera, basic organizer features. You can send text and multi-media messages, and of course, make calls. So doesn't have a lot of features, but has most of the basic things that you'd be looking for in a phone. I'm Kent German, and this is the Samsung SGHT239. [ Music ]

The bad: The Samsung SGH-T239's volume is rather low. The Clear key is hidden behind the sliding face.
The bottom line: With decent performance and a few extra features, the Samsung SGH-T239 offers great value for a prepaid phone.
