>> Hi, I'm Ken Sherman, senior editor here at cnet.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the Samsung SGHA 517. It's a new phone for AT&T wireless service. AT&T and Samsung are big on the music phones right now, this is a music phone, doesn't work with AT&T's music service, which of course doesn't allow you music downloads over the air. You have to connect to a computer. But still has a music player inside. Has a camera lens here on the top, external display, and the music player buttons down here. You can play, you can pause, you can rewind, and fast forward your music. Here on the side we have a volume rocker, head set, charger jack so you can only use one device at a time. And here on the side we have a micro SD slot. The phone is very reflective and shiny, it attracts fingerprints by the ton, so you want to be aware of that. Here inside, the internal display is pretty nice. Bright and colorful, typical for Samsung displays of this type. Very hard to see in direct light though, so if you're out in the sun or really bright light you'll have to squint. For a phone this thin you will have completely flat controls for the navigation array and the key pad. There is a little bit of texture, though. There's some lines between the individual columns that help you dial by feel just a little bit. The toggle is pretty slick, it's silver, so your finger kind of slides across it a lot. Also don't like that when in stand-by mode the button in the center which should open the menu, at least that's our preference, opens the Web browser as well. So you have to click up here to open the main menu. Overall though, this is a mid range phone, has a couple extra features like the camera and the music player, but really it's a phone for making calls and not really high advanced functions. The Samsung Rugby SGH-A837's could use a few improvements, but it remains a solid choice for a rugged, straight-forward phone with a loaded feature set.
The Samsung SGH-A777 is a decent 3G slider phone, but there's not much to distinguish it from comparable devices.
Samsung SBH-600 stereo Bluetooth headset
Though it doesn't have the best call quality, its comfortable fit and fantastic audio quality makes the Samsung SBH-600 one of the best stereo Bluetooth headsets for listening to music.

The good: The Samsung SGH-A517 has a decent feature set that includes Bluetooth, a megapixel camera, and a music player. It has impressive talk time as well.
The bad: The Samsung SGH-A517 had unreliable call quality and the design is rather unremarkable.
The bottom line: The Samsung SGH-A517 has a fair set of features, but as a cell phone, it doesn't make the best calls.
