>> Hi. This is Kent German, senior editor at CNET.com. Today we're taking a First Look at the Samsung SGHA227. This is a new phone for AT&T service. This is a really basic phone, very simple in design, form, and function. What we have here is a very basic flip phone, just a simple gray color. Not really a lot going on here. I just have a monochrome display on the outside. Shows the date, time, and battery life, and all that information, and caller id. It won't get you much photo caller id, but the phone doesn't have a camera, so there's not a lot to worry about there. Here, on this side, you have a volume rocker. Here on this side you have a headset jack, which doubles as a charger port, so you can only use one at a time. The phone's plastic, so it does feel a little bit light in the hands, but it feels pretty comfortable in the hand, though, and certainly compact. Inside, the main display is okay. It's not quite as washed out as you've seen on some other Samsungs of this caliber. This has a little more, better resolution and graphics and things like that. It looked just a tiny bit better, but still it's not a really, really rich display. It just has 65,000-color resolution. The navigation array is well designed. A toggle with an okay button in the center, two soft keys to have a talk and end keys. You have a clear and back button. And when you're in standby mode the okay button actually activates the web browser. It also has some shortcuts you can set for the toggle. The keypad buttons, they are raised just a - very slightly above the surface of the phone, but we did like that they have the large numbers and the bright backlighting. The keys just have that same plastic feel as the outside of the phone, so if you're going to be doing a lot of really rapid texting, really a lot of dialing, it might not feel that comfortable. But it's fine for occasional use. The phone is very slim on features. As I said, it just has a speakerphone, basic organizer features, and that's pretty much it. This is a phone for really occasional callers, people that just need a phone, maybe, for emergencies. Wouldn't really recommend it to anyone that's kind of using it all the time. I'm Kent German, and this is the Samsung SGHA227. ^M00:01:52 [ Music ]
