>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a first look at the Samsung SGHA127. This is the new phone for AT and T service. This is a pretty basic Samsung phone. It does have the camera, but mostly it's for making calls. Did like the red color on the outside, contrasts nicely with the silver, and that's a good, nice change from the black, and all silver phones we see so much. Some people might like the compact design, I found it a little too small though. Here on the outside you have a external display, it's monochrome but it shows all the information you need. Here on the side we have a volume rocker, and here on the other side we have a camera shortcut. It does work when the phone is closed, and even the monochrome display will work as a very rudimentary viewfinder for self portraits. Inside, pretty nice display. Typical Samsung, bright and colorful. Even on this small a phone though it has a pretty good resolution. You can see inside the menus, the graphics look pretty nice. Moving down to the navigation controls, found these a little hard to use, a little squashed together. I appreciate a little more definition, especially on the toggle. There is a red on the outside, which is great for if you're trying to use it in a dim situation, but my big fingers using this phone found it a little too crammed in. Also the keys are flat against the surface of the phone, which isn't, not totally necessary on a phone this thick, it is a little hard to type quickly and to dial numbers very quickly, so you want to make sure you know what you're doing. Definitely not a phone I think for someone who is talking a lot, doing a lot of texting and a lot of dialing. Overall though, basic features, basic camera, speakerphone, messaging. [ background music ] Just not a lot there for really high end users. I'm Ken German, this is the Samsung SGHA127. ^M00:01:29 [ music ]

Samsung SGH-A127 - red (AT&T) Review
The good: The Samsung SGH-A127 has an attractive color scheme, simple menus, and a solid VGA camera.
The bad: The Samsung SGH-A127 has a poor speakerphone, and call quality wasn't always reliable. Also, its controls and keypad are difficult to use.
The bottom line: The Samsung SGH-A127 may have an eye-catching color scheme, but we wouldn't recommend it as a basic cell phone.
