-Hello, I'm Luke Westaway for CNET at CES 2013 checking out Samsung's new flagship plasma TV. This is the F8500 series. So, plasma might not be the most exciting display technology on the block right now with OLED and 4K and other exciting buzzwords going around, but Samsung is not letting go of plasma. It's got this new high end flagship. The F8500 series is going to me in 51, 60, and 64-inch sizes. So, Samsung says this is 2.5 times as bright as last year's models, which is hopefully good news because last year's editions really didn't impress that much in terms of light output. So, he's hoping this one is a little better. First impression, though, that it certainly looks very good, but of course, your lost your way for full review to figure out if it's the best TV for your money. Inside, you get all the usual comforts. So, you've got Samsung's brand new remodeled smart TV service with some apps and web browsing. You've got a lot. It's got 3D of course, and it's got quad-core processor on the inside. Quad-core processor, not generally you would see one inside the TV show, but Samsung says that that's gonna be good for things like web browsing, using the smart services, and possibly a lot with picture processing too. You get Samsung's new S-recommendation engine, which pops up little thumbnails of things that the TV things that you might want to watch just along the bottom of the screen and you've got voice interaction as well. So, if you do feel you to start screaming of your television, then you can do that, just don't hurt those feelings. Other manufacturers are big on NFC this year, but Samsung is using its Smart View technology, which lets you stream video from your smartphone onto your television. If you haven filled your house with Samsung's smart appliances, then AllShare technology in this television lets you do crazy things like monitor your air conditioner or your washing machine from your television. I don't know why you would want to do that, but the feature is there if you need it. Bad news is there is no word on pricing. So, as yet, it's a mystery on how much you'll have to splash out to acquire this thing for own home It is coming out this year though, so in a few months maybe we'll know a little bit more information. Samsung PN60F8500 Review
The good: The Samsung PNF8500 series exhibits outstanding picture quality with a class-leading bright-room image, exceedingly deep black levels, very good shadow detail, highly accurate colors and superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics; mind-boggling feature list with touch-pad remote, IR blaster with cable box control, four pairs of 3D glasses, motion and voice command, and the industry's most capable Smart TV platform; unique styling with full-width ribbon stand and slim-bezel metallic finish.
The bad: Extremely expensive; correct film cadence requires sacrificing some black level; remote lacks numerous direct commands; imperfect cable box control; consumes more power than LCD TVs; introduces significant input lag.
The bottom line: Samsung's best-performing TV ever, the PNF8500 series pushes the plasma picture quality envelope, especially in bright rooms.
