>> Ms. Lee: I'm Nicole Lee associate editor for cnet.com and this is a first look at the Samsung Intensity from Verizon Wireless. As you can see here is a very nice compact messaging phone. It has curved corners all around here. It has a very nice soft touch plastic cover on the back here. It's a nice 2.1 inch color display. Underneath that you do get a typical navigation keys. You do get the two soft keys, then round circular toggle, a dedicated speakerphone key, as well as the clear key and the send and end and power keys. And underneath that you do get a very nice number key pad as well. On the side here you do get the 2.5mm headset jack. A volume rocker as well as the charger jack. On the other side here you do get the voice command key as well as the camera key. On the back you get the 1.3 mega pixel camera lens as well as a self-portrait mirror and the external speaker. There's also a micro-SD card slot but you have to remove the battery cover to get at it. Slide the phone to the right and you will get a full qwerty keyboard, a four row qwerty keyboard here. There are two sockets on either side here for use in landscape mode. There's also a dedicated messaging key and the arrow keys are marked out in gray and they share a space with the l and m and p keys. The keyboard is overall quite really easy to use. Features on the Intensity are quite minimal. You do get the 1.3 mega pixel camera as well as text and multimedia messaging, instant messaging, e-mail and so forth. You also get GPS as well as a music player. The Samsung Intensity is compatible with the vCast music with Rhapsody but you can't download songs over the air because it does not have evideo. You can sync up your existing music on your PC with it though or any rhapsody subscription tracks you may have. The Samsung Intensity is $29.99 in this charcoal gray version with a two year agreement with Verizon Wireless. Even better is the flaming red version which we don't have right here but it's available exclusively on Verizon Wireless Online Store for free. I'm Nicole Lee and this has been a first look at the Samsung Intensity from Verizon wireless. ^M00:02:07

Samsung Intensity SCH-U450 - flamingo red (Verizon Wireless) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Samsung Intensity has an attractive and compact design, a great keyboard, and a nice display. It has a megapixel camera, a music player, and GPS.

The bad: The Samsung Intensity can't download songs over the air even though it is compatible with V Cast Music, the navigation keys are a little cramped, and the photo quality could be improved. The microSD card slot is inconveniently located behind the battery cover.

The bottom line: The Samsung Intensity is a simple entry-level messaging phone with a few multimedia goodies that's very affordable and easy to use.
