>> Hey, I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com here at CES 2009, taking a look at the Samsung HMX-H106. This is an HD camcorder. It's got 64 gigabytes, solid-state drive inside. That's a lot of storage. Samsung says that should get you about 12 hours of HD video. And at this taping, it's the largest solid-state drive in a camcorder right now. Otherwise, nice compact form factor. Samsung gives you a 2.7-inch screen for the viewfinder here. On the bottom is an SD card slot, just in case that 64 gigabytes isn't enough for you. Got the nice, little swivel grip going on on the side, which a lot of people tend to like. And then over here on the back, got an HDMI, a USB, and your regular AV. Now they don't have pricing information on this yet. The predecessor, the HMX-20C went for $850.00, so you could probably guess it'll be under a thousand dollars, and they do expect it to ship in April. Once again, it's the Samsung HMX-H106. At CES 2009, I'm Tom Merritt. ^M00:01:06 [ Music ]

Samsung HMX-H106 Review
The good: Attractive design; comfortable rotating grip; manual shutter speed and aperture controls.
The bad: SSD adds unnecessary price premium; so-so video quality; slow, inaccurate autofocus.
The bottom line: An interesting design doesn't offset the so-so video quality and performance, especially for the higher priced HMX-H106, H105, and H104. If you're set on this series, though, the no-memory-included Samsung HMX-H100 is probably the best deal of the bunch.
