>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we'll take a first look of the Samsung Highlight. It's also called the SGH-T749. It's a new phone for T-Mobile Service. Samsung is calling this a touch screen phone for the masses. So that means that it is a low end touch screen phone, really entry level, has a lot of what you'd expect from a Samsung phone, has the TouchWiz interface, has a virtual QWERTY keyboard, has a virtual dial pad. So there's really no buttons per say as far as navigation controls. Has mid range features, like a 3 meg camera, Bluetooth music player, but doesn't get a lot fancier beyond that. On the whole the design is pretty nice. Here on the front you'll find a vibrant touch screen. As I said it has the TouchWiz interface on the side, so you can touch that arrow like that, move the bar back and forth. When you want an access feature you can drag it out with, just like that. And you can maximize it here on the front. Just drag it back like that to put it back in the bar. Like other TouchWiz phones you are given a certain number of icons to use in the bar. You can't select which ones you want, and you can't create new ones, which is something we'd like to see on a TouchWiz phone. Also find a few permanent icons down here at the bottom. They'll take you to the phone book, the phone dialer, the web browser, and the main menu. Main menu is pretty easy to use, shows all the icons you might expect. You can access pretty much everything here. Phone dial interface is pretty easy to use. For messaging you can use the standard alphanumeric keypad here as well. I'm not really sure why you'd want to. But if you tip the phone you can see a whole virtual keyboard, which will be a little easier to use. Even though the display is kind of small for a touch screen, it's not a bad keyboard. We were able to use it pretty easily. Besides being a world phone, the highlight does support T-Mobiles 3G network. Not very expensive as far as national coverage goes, but it is growing. So from past experience of other T-Mobile 3G phones we found the data space to be pretty good. Over all though, touch screen phone, entry level with some midrange multimedia features. I'm Kent German and this Samsung Highlight, also called the SGH-T749. ^E00:01:57
