>> Hi, I'm Bonnie Cha, Senior editor at CNET.com, and today we're taking a First Look at the Samsung Glint for Alltel. This is a very basic phone that is designed mostly just to make calls and not much else, which isn't a bad thing. The design of the phone is just as simple as the feature set. On front, you get a postage stamp size external display that shows the usual information, like time, date, battery life, and signal strength. It also shows photo caller ID and new message notifications. On the inside, you get a 1.9-inch display. Its resolution is really pretty low, so graphics and images don't look all that sharp, but it's clear enough for dialing numbers and text messages. Below the screen, you get standard navigation controls and the dial pad. And even through the phone is pretty small, the buttons are large and roomy, so most people shouldn't have any problems dialing numbers or writing text messages with this. Like I said earlier, the Glint doesn't have a lot of bells or whistles. It does offer Blu-tooth though, so you can use it with wireless headsets and hands-free kits. Up front here, you've got a VGA camera, which took some awful picots. I know it's a low-end phone, but I think you could have squeezed in 1.3-megapixel camera, which would have been better. There are a handful of organizational features and tools, including a calendar, a memo pad, and calculator, as well as an alarm clock. And you can check for more apps from the Alltel store, but just be aware that this will take away from your minutes, and so will using the phone's WAP browser. But the browser is pretty bad and bare bones, so I'm not sure you'd want to use it anyway. But the Glint does what it's supposed to do really well. The phone offered great call quality, and I was even impressed at how clear and loud the speakerphone was. Even better, you can get this phone for free from Alltel with a one-year contract and after a mail-in rebate, or you can get it for $139.99 without a contract. If you're an Alltel customer, and all you want is a phone for making calls, I'd say the Samsung Glint is a good choice. I'm Bonnie Cha, and this has been your First Look at the Samsung Glint for Alltel. ^M00:01:58 [ Music ]

The Samsung SCH-U420 is a very attractive and lightweight phone for Alltel, though it could use some refinements in feature implementation.
On its own, the Samsung Reality is a great midrange multimedia phone, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Rogue, which has a better design and better features.
