Hey, guys. I'm Eric Franklin. And today, I'll take a first look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, cellular edition. The Wi-Fi version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was released in 2012, and now, it's available under three cellular carriers: Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile. If you have no exposure to the tablet, let's quickly run through a few of its features. First off, the cellular version-- in this case, the Sprint version-- is identical in design to the Wi-Fi version. I have not seen the AT&T or T-Mobile models, but from what I understand, they're identical as well. That means you get a decently built, fairly light 10-inch tablet with microSD storage expansion, IR blaster, and decent front and back cameras. It's not the fastest tablet in the world; gamers especially won't have anything to write home about. But for typical tasks, it gets the job done. However, while the Wi-Fi version now ships with Jelly Bean, these cellular versions are still eating that melted, soggy Ice Cream Sandwich. The 4G cellular version of the Tab 2 10.1 is available at AT&T and T-Mobile starting at $499, and at Sprint, starting at $549-- that is with a month to month plan. Honestly, the Tab 2 10.1 fell dated when they debuted last year. And I don't recommend buying into a 2-year contract for now. Beyond that, however, it's still a decent tablet for a less demanding user. For more information, check out my full review at CNET.com. The good: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a well-designed tablet with powerful speakers, a responsive screen, and expandable storage.
The bad: The tablet is overpriced, its dual-core CPU has trouble running large 1080p movies smoothly, and its screen color accuracy isn't as high as the previous Tab 10.1's.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes up short in performance, features, and value compared with competing tablets.
