Hey, (??). This is the first look at the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, the kid brother to the player 5.0. You can think of this as the Android equivalent of an iPod Touch though priced slightly higher at $229 for the same 8 gb model. Running Google's Android 2.3 software includes all the perks like the official Android market, Gmail, Maps, Google Talk and more. You're getting a 4 inch screen compared to the 3.5 inch screen on the iPod Touch. That said if you're particular about these kinds of things, the screen resolution on this display is 800 x 480 which is less than the iPod Touch at 960 x 640. It's often noticeably thicker than the iPod Touch and it's (??) design doesn't feel as nice. You get a micro SD expansion slot and if you pop off the back, allowing for another 32 gb of extra storage. On the top here, there's a headphone jack and a micro USB port for syncing and charging and on the back you find 2 speakers and a 3.2 mega pixel camera. Don't forget a VGA camera in the front among your typical (??) navigation down here. Now, why would you buy this? I'll give you the same answer I did the Galaxy Player 5. If you don't really have one, spending the same amount on decent Android phone with a contract. It's gonna be a better value for you. If you do have a smart phone already, you just want a dedicated device for multimedia. You're gonna be disappointed with the audio and video quality compared to an iPod Touch. If you're buying this for a kid, there's no safeguards on here you'll find on the iPod Touch and even if Samsung drops the price here to a $199, the iPod Touch just does this whole thing a lot better and if you wanted a larger screen for watching videos and web browsing, I say you spend the same amount on a no color at (Kindle Fire?). So there you go, that's the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, a decent product that just doesn't stand out from the competition. For (??).com, I'm Donald Bell.

The good: The Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 offers most of the capabilities of Samsung's popular Android smartphones, minus the phone and monthly fees.
The bad: Either a 7-inch tablet or an on-contract Android smartphone would be more useful and potentially less expensive. Parents should know there are no safeguards included to restrict access to age-inappropriate content.
The bottom line: Samsung delivers Android's answer to the iPod Touch at a time when you can spend less for Android's answer to the iPad.
