Samsung Galaxy S II (AT&T) Video Transcript

Hey, everyone. I'm Bonnie Chad, senior editor at CNET.com, with another look at the Samsung Galaxy S2 for AT&T. First I got a glimpse of this Gingerbread Android phone at the launch event in late August, but we finally got it in for review and it's pretty sweet. The AT&T version actually most closely resembles the international version of the phone because it has a 4.3-inch display instead of a 4.5-inch touchscreen like the T-Mobile and Sprint versions of the Galaxy S2. And I think that's a good thing because it gives the phone a more manageable design. It's not as tall or wide, so it's easier to hold, which I think is going to be more appealing to a lot more people. Plus I think with 4.3 inches, there's still plenty of room to view; web pages, media and messages. The Super AMOLED Plus display shows off really deep colors and sharp images and texts so I didn't miss having that extra 0.2 inches of screen real estate. As I mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S2 is running gingerbread along with Samsung's new TouchWiz interface. It includes some nice enhancements like more controls in the notification's area, and the ability to resize live widgets. While some of the other changes are marked cosmetic but still it makes for a more polished user experience. On back, you've got an 8-megapixel camera and flash and I was really happy with the picture quality. Even under dim lighting photos came out with bright colors and lots of detail. And since the phone has a dual-core 1.2 GHZ processor, it can also shoot 1080p HD video which also came out looking fantastic. The processor also kept the phone running smoothly and quickly, apps launched right away and there was no slowdown when switching between apps. I also had no problems playing games or Flash content. The phone delivered good call quality too and battery life has been impressive for a smartphone, getting a little over a day's use on a single charge with moderate to a heavy usage. The only complaints I really have about the phone are that, parts of the phone feel plasticky like the battery door and AT&T's HSPA+ data speeds weren't all that impressive, at least not here in New York. Still, there's so much to love about the Galaxy S2 which is why we're giving it our Editor's Choice Award. Its combination of a sleek design, great feature set and solid performance makes it the best Android smartphone available from AT&T right now, in my opinion.
