>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we'll take a First Look at the Samsung Delve. This is a new phone for Alltel service. This is also called the SCH-r800. It is a touchscreen phone. In some ways it looks like the Instinct, it has same basic shape, the same size, same color scheme, rounded edges, same controls around the sides and the camera lens in the back, but of course unlike the Instinct, it does have physical controls down here at the bottom. The touchscreen is pretty good. I wish it was just a little bit bigger. It felt like you could take a little more advantage of the phone's real estate. I found it pretty responsive most of the time. It does have Samsung's TouchWiz interface and of course what that is, is there is a bar here, a shortcut bar here on the side that you can hide, you can access a lot of functions by just holding them down or by dragging them on to the main screen. There's also a collapsible shortcut bar here on the top that has shortcuts for the messaging menu, the Web browser, the music player, and Bluetooth. And then there's also some dedicated controls down here. Main menu is simple icon or list-faced. It's very easy to use. The functions are all surface pretty well, so you don't have to do a lot of digging around most of the time. The phone does come with some multimedia features. It has a 2-megapixel camera, has a music player, has Alltel's TV on Demand. The phone does have a virtual keyboard for typing, you can get a full QWERTY keyboard, you can also use the alphanumeric keyboard, the standard 9-digit that you'd find in a regular phone. The phone also comes with handwriting recognition, so you can trace your finger to write letters or write words. The phone doesn't have an accelerometer, which is disappointing. Also the phone doesn't have Wi-Fi, so we really like Wi-Fi in this full HTML browser, so this phone doesn't have it. Overall, performance was good. I like the photo quality. Call quality was pretty good, could be a little louder. Speakerphone was maybe a little bit muffled, but on the whole most people could hear us and we can hear them. I'm Kent German and this is the Samsung Delve. ^M00:01:48 [ Music ]
