>> Nicole Lee: I'm Nicole Lee, associate editor for cnet.com, and this is a first look at the Samsung Caliber for US Cellular. As you can see here, it is a touchscreen phone. On the front there's a nice 3.2inch display here. There are three different customizable home screens on the display here plus the very familiar touch widget tray. You can customize each home screen with a different widget by just dragging and dropping the widget to the home screen. You only get 25 widgets that come with the phone, but they do include quick access to things like Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, and Twitter. Also on the top of each home screen is a collapsible shortcut bar for a new text message and new memo, the music player, and the Bluetooth settings. Along the bottom row are shortcuts to the phone dialer, the contacts list, the messaging menu, and the main menu. The Caliber also has an accelerometer that will automatically rotate the display on the phone from portrait mode to landscape mode. It also has two gesture settings, a mute gesture which silences any incoming event by just turning the phone face down. And a widget reset gesture which resets all the widgets on the screen just by shaking the phone. The Caliber has several text input methods. You have the alphanumeric keypad, handwriting recognition, as well as a virtual QWERTY keyboard. Features of the Caliber include stereo Bluetooth, EVDO, GPS, email, text and multimedia messaging, any full HTML browser that can play flash videos. You can zoom in and out of web pages with the volume rocker. Another handy way to zoom in and out of pages is to hold down your finger or stylus on the screen for a few seconds and then swipe the finger up to zoom in, or swipe it down to zoom out. There's also a music player and 3.0 megapixel camera. If you don't want to use your finger to navigate the phone, there's also an optional stylus. The Samsung Caliber is around $320 without a contract. I'm Nicole Lee, and this has been a first look at the Samsung caliber. ^M00:02:04 [ Music ] ^M00:02:07

Samsung Caliber (U.S. Cellular) Review
The good: The Samsung Caliber is slim and lightweight with an attractive display. It has plenty of features like a built-in accelerometer, a 3.0-megapixel camera, and a full HTML browser. It also has great call quality.
The bad: The Samsung Caliber lacks Wi-Fi, and the touch screen takes some acclimation.
The bottom line: The Samsung Caliber could use some refinements, but it is overall a decent touch-screen multimedia phone for U.S. Cellular.
