>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior editor at CNET.com. I'm here at the Samsung Booth at CTIA 2008 in Las Vegas to show you the Samsung Access. This is a new phone. It was just announced for AT&T. It is also called the SGH A827. This is one of the first handsets to support AT&T's new mediaFLO service that's AT&T TV, but you can see that it is broadcast television to the phone. It isn't the 3G kind of V Cast style for the cellular video that we're used to seeing at phone AT&T more this is like the V Cast mobile TV, so it is the direct TV broadcast. You can see we do have a very good quality. It looks a lot like a normal TV, of course it is very small, the screen, but the quality is pretty good. The phone itself is a simple candy-bar design. It is a little bit bigger than I thought, but it just fit nicely in the hands. The keypad buttons and the navigation controls are flat with the surface of the phone, but they seem like a pretty nice design and pretty spacious, which I really like, so I could really get in there. The navigation toggle is raised just about the surface of the phone as well. Also, the Talk and End key, a couple of soft keys, the TV key and then the Back key. Here on the side you do have a few controls, have a 1.3 mega pixel camera, has an FM radio, has Bluetooth, has a microSD slot, and a Media Player so, really a high-end multimedia phone. Design could be a little flasher, I thought, maybe can have a little more just wiz-bang about it, but overall a pretty solid device. This will be out in May to AT&T and it's the Samsung Access SGH A827. ^M00:01:22 [ Music ]

Samsung Access SGH-A827 (AT&T) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Samsung Access offers a brilliant display, great call and music quality, and a respectable set of midrange features.

The bad: The Samsung Access lacks some higher-end offerings such as voice dialing and its design is rather boring. Also, its photo quality was disappointing.

The bottom line: Though it offers a new AT&T feature, the Samsung Access isn't a compelling alternative to the flashier LG Vu.
